The End Does Not Justify The Mean, What Does It Mean?

Posted on August 31, 2008 by Hye

The End Does Not Justify The MeanWhat does the quote "The end does not justify the mean" exactly mean?

The first time I heard the statement above, I wasn't exactly sure what it really means. Honestly. Our instructor wrote those words in the blackboard during our class and asked us, his students, the meaning. I was so glad he did not ask me directly, because if he did, I swear I would stammer and remain silent.

Our instructor gave us an example. I can't remember the exact words, but the idea was like this: John has a very sick daughter, but due to lack of money, the hospital won't admit his daughter. To get the necessary money, his only choice is to rob a bank. In this case, does the end (to save his daughter) justify the means (to rob a bank)?

If you were in my position that time, how are you going to answer? Do you agree that it is not always right to do something wrong to get to something right?

Will You Still Trust Someone Who Lied To You Before?

Posted on August 22, 2008 by Hye

Will You Still Trust Someone Who Lied To You Before?I am sure all of us already lied to someone we loved or even to our enemies. That's life... I think lying is human nature. We lie to protect the truth. We lie to protect those people involved... etc. Remember my post about white lies?

If you deny and tell me you haven't lied before, then you are lying.

Anyway, I would like to ask you - yes, you (the one reading this) - if you will still trust the one who lied to you before? If yes, will that trust the same as before or will it ever change?

Posted on August 14, 2008 by Hye

A Father's Love: A Very Insipirational VideoHow deep is a father's love? I just saw a video in Youtube and I thought of sharing it here because it is really inspirational. While watching the clip, I was teary-eyed and touched at the same time.

Honestly, I was wordless... I can't express the exact words I felt right after I watched the clip. I think it's better that you watch the video below and see for yourself.

At the end of the video, you will see the message and hopefully you'll get inspired and touched too. Turn on your volume so you can listen to the background music ;0 Ta-ta-ta!!!

08 08 08 - Is August 8 2008 A Lucky Day?

Posted on August 8, 2008 by Hye

08 08 08 - Is August 8 2008 A Lucky Day?08/08/08, 080808, 888,8 8 8, 8/8/08, 8808, 8 8 08... These are just some of the combination of today's date - August 8 , 2008.

Many people are saying that today is a lucky day thus a lot chose this date as their wedding day, business opening day, etc. Well, the question is - is 080808 really a lucky day?

Eight to the Chinese culture is a very lucky number. However, August is a ghost month. According to an article I read somewhere, this day is not lucky. This day should not be celebrated for a special occasion like wedding. However, it's an ideal day to pray and enjoy sports - that's the reason the 2008 Summer Olympics was set on 08/08/08.

In my opinion, I think it doesn't matter if today is lucky or not. What matters is "It's up to us how we live our life". If you think today is lucky, then so be it. If not, then go on.

What do you think?

Breeding Lilacs Out of the Dead Land

Posted on July 8, 2008 by Hye

April Is The Cruelest MonthAPRIL is the cruelest month,
breeding lilacs out of the dead land,
mixing memory and desire,
stirring dull roots with spring rain.
Winter kept us warm,
covering earth in forgetful snow,
feeding a little life with dried tubers."

--T.S. Eliot, the Wasteland

Are you familiar with these lines? I saw this poem a while ago and I thought it might be interesting to discuss this here in Space of Reality. Do you think April is the cruelest month - based from the poem? Why do you think so.

I know the month of April already passed months ago. Some of the important days of this month were remembered, some were forgotten. In some part of the world, the lilacs bloom and then die. During April, summer will come, with its heat and violence in the streets and the cinemas. Life tends to come and go and all we can do is make our moment to moment decisions.

Can you relate? It is our individual choices that make up the history of humankind. What are you going to do? What is important to you, and how are you going to make it important for everyone else?

Do You Think It's Wrong To Judge Other People?

Posted on June 26, 2008 by Hye

Do you think that its wrong to judge other people? Why do we judge people? C'mon, let's admit it. All of us already judged other people in one way or another - whether it is giving that girl in the too-tight outfit a crappy glance or talking about people who sometimes make mistakes - it is still judging or criticizing.

So why do we judge other people? Is it because of jealousy? dislike? disappointment? or is it just a human nature - I mean, is it natural or normal to judge people because we are only human?

In my opinion, it is okay to "see" other people mistakes, weaknesses, or imperfections... However, instead of stressing it out and telling it to other people, why not talk to that person straight and honestly, tell her/him what you think about her, and suggest something you believe will make her/him better.

Fair, right? I know it is not easy, but it still the right move. That person may not appreciate your effort, but at least you did what is best for both of you ;0

What do you think?

Letting Go Or No Letting Go

Posted on June 18, 2008 by Hye

letting go quotes letting go poems letting go lyricsFor some people, letting go is so easy. They can say "I'm letting go" so quick - and these are the ones who can easily forgive, let go of the past, and look forward to the future.

In reality, if there are some people who think, believe, and feel the same as above, there are also few who find letting go so hard. They are afraid in:

- letting go of a relationship
- letting go of the past
- letting go of an ex
- letting go of anger
- letting go of disappointments
- letting go of emotional wounds
- letting go of unhealthy relationships
- letting go of an alcoholic (?!?!?)
- letting go of a dying loved one
- letting go of friendship
- letting go of a lover
- letting go of bitterness
- letting go of emotions
- letting go of past hurts
- letting go of shame

Did you ever find it hard to let go any of the above mentioned? Were you able to move on now? Or still dwelling with it?

Personally, I admit there are some things and people I still can't let go. Maybe I was just holding and hoping. Or maybe I was just too afraid to look forward because the past keeps taunting me. I am not sure - or maybe I was just afraid to face the truth.

I know I should let go. It might be hard but I must. I guess the key here is just the right timing. When? I don't know, but I just hope it would be soon.

Any advice?

Crab Mentality - The Good and The Bad

Posted on June 10, 2008 by Hye

I've been thinking of creating a post about crab mentality for so long, but it's only now that I got the motivation to do so. I am so sleepy right now, but I feel obligated to update this blog and the subject about crab mentality could be a great topic. Maybe after publishing this post, I will sleep ;0

Why talk about crab mentality, you might ask? It's because this really happens in reality - in work, in school, in our homes, even in the blogosphere. I want to concentrate this post about crab mentality among bloggers, because I feel someone was pulling me down ;(

According to Wikipedia, crab mentality is a way of thinking best described by the phrase "If I can't have it, neither can you." The metaphor refers to a pot of crabs in which one tries to escape over the side, but is relentlessly pulled down by the others in the pot.

I feel so disappointed - even disgusted - knowing there are some bloggers who think as crabs. They keep on pulling booming bloggers down. Why did I said this? Just recently, someone anonymously left a comment on my other blog telling me he will keep on clicking my ads so I get suspended or banned. Whhhhaaaatttt!?!!!!

Instead of getting alarmed, I get furious instead. Why would someone do that? It's not because I am making money with the program - and this guy maybe doesn't - he got the right to do this action. Gladly, I was able to track the site and IP address of the guy who keep on clicking the advertisements of my blogs. If I get furious enough, I will do the necessary action/s.

Crab mentality is really sickening. Why would someone not let other people succeed? Instead of pulling other people, why not do something that will make them successful as well?

Crab mentality is another reality that really kicks ;( So sad, but true...

Are You A People Pleaser?

Posted on May 4, 2008 by Hye

Do You Please Other People?Do you please other people? In other words, are you a people pleaser?

Before you answer the questions above, maybe it would be better if we first explain what "a people pleaser" means.

A people pleaser think of other people’s needs before their own. He worries about what other people want, think, or need. He spends a lot of time doing things for others. He rarely do things for themselves and feel guilty when they do.

A people pleaser hold back from saying what he really think or from asking for what he wants if he thinks someone will be upset with him for it. Yet he often spends time with people who don’t consider his needs at all. In fact, a people pleaser often feel driven to make insensitive or unhappy people feel better - even at the detriment to themselves.

A people pleaser may believe that if he ask someone for help and that person agrees, that person would be giving out of obligation, not because he really wanted to. The thinking goes - if he really wanted to help, he would have offered without my asking. This line of thinking happens because a people pleaser themselves feel obliged to help, and do not always do things because he wants to. Sadly, a people pleaser have been taught that their worth depends on doing things for other people.

A People pleaser's focus is mostly on others and away from himself. He often feel empty, or don’t know how he feels, what he thinks, or what he wants for himself.

Now, knowing what the words "people pleaser" means, do you think do you please other people? Mind to explain your thoughts ;0

Is Success Can Be Measured By Money?

Posted on March 18, 2008 by Hye

Science of Getting RichI saw a book titled "The Science of Getting Rich" yesterday while in a coffee shop with my friends. I thought it was a great read so I grabbed and started reading it from the first page. I don't mind my company because they are busy talking with some stuffs.

Anyway back to the book, the first page didn't go so well - I mean I disagree with the author - so I started skimming each page rather than reading and understanding each word. I did not read the book completely because I was disappointed, just scanned it. I had an e-book titled the same with the different author and I loved more my e-book rather than the book in the coffee shop.

So, why did I not like the book? It's because the author's main focus is about money. He seems to tell his readers that success can only be measured by money. This is what I disagreed with. I disagree that success can only be measured by money. In my opinion, success is not only what you have achieved, it also include who you influenced, what you have learned, and how happy you are with it. Success is not only about money.

Okay, as I've mentioned before, money is a necessity in today's world. It’s great to have a lot of money. You can almost do anything with money. Money can make you powerful. But it doesn't mean you have to be very rich with money before you can be known as successful. There are a lot of people who aren't rich in money but they are rich in knowledge, love, happiness, family, and friendship. I believe they are also successful.

Success is not only about how much money you have. Okay, you are rich... but isn't it worthless when you are not happy and no one truly loves you?

Teens Resort To Sex For Money?

Posted on March 8, 2008 by Hye

Teen ProstitutionIt's been two days since my last post. I've been busy for some personal stuff. To our avid readers, I apologize for not giving you reality articles for the past two days. As well, thanks to those who dropped their comments informing me I received awards and tags. I really appreciate them a lot. I will post and share these as soon as possible. For now, I want to share my opinion about life truth - which is on the title of this post.

Will you please re-read the title of this article? Do you agree? Why not? Does this incident happening in your country, too?

Honestly, this situation occurs in my country. There is no denying. I read it in newspapers. I watched it in the local - sometimes international - news. I heard it from a friend. How many times have I read, watched, and heard about a parent engaging his daughter for prostitution? How about a teenager engaging in prostitution just to pay her college tuition, or worst, just to have some money to buy drugs or alcohol?

A lot of times, indeed.

Why? It is because of poverty? Lack of proper parental guidance? Peer pressure? Lack of government support to the poor? Or is it the only option to take?

I know money is necessity. We need money to survive. But does it mean, because you have no money, your only choice is to employ in prostitution?

Who is accountable for this - the parent, the teenager herself, the peer, or the government?

As usual, reality bites... and these are my simple thoughts ;(
